Matsutake mushrooms, Tricholoma magnivelare from the woods of the pacific northwest. This is one of the most elusive and unique edible mushrooms found. Prized in Japan and often given as a gifts symbolizing fertility and happiness. World wide Matsutakes are highly regarded for their intense odor and flavor. Folks either love them or hate them. The aroma is often described as spicy, like red hot cinnamon candies or like old tennis shoes depending on how your nose works. Fortunately for me, I smell candy. They arrive in the late summer and early fall as the rains begin and like other edibles are usually accompanied by loud whoops and hollers when found.
"Matsutake" is a print of my original watercolor. I paint in the tradition of botanical illustration and strive to vividly capture the fleeting moment of discovery.
Prints are available in 5" x 7", 8" x 10", and 11" x 14" sizes. All prints are compatible with standard size mats and frames available at craft stores or easily framed at your favorite frame shop.
All prints are reproduced with heavy acid-free paper using archival inks. Prints are signed and numbered by me.
Prints will be mailed flat in a protective plastic sleeve in well protected rigid packaging.
Painting mushrooms is an extension of my love for hunting mushrooms here in the northwest. My hope is you will include "Matsutake" as a unique addition to your botanical or culinary art collections.
