Beyoncé is used to breaking records, as she seems to do so all the time. With her latest single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” the superstar is trying some new things, galloping into the country world head-first. The success of her new tune has helped her make history in several ways, including one this week that demonstrates the diversity of her catalog.
“Texas Hold ‘Em” has become a big win at radio in only a matter of a few weeks. As the cut climbs on a number of Billboard rankings that detail the most-played and most successful tracks at various formats of radio, it debuts on one tally–and as it does, Beyoncé matches an incredible record.
Beyoncé has now appeared on 18 of Billboard’s radio-only charts. The company publishes more than 20 rankings dedicated to showing which songs are reaching the largest audiences at a variety of formats, which are typically focused on different styles and genres of music.
The singer reaches that milestone as “Texas Hold ‘Em” hits the Adult Alternative Airplay chart. Her new single launches at No. 36 on that tally, bringing Bey to the list for the first time in her decades-long career. It marks the eighteenth radio ranking she’s landed on.
According to Billboard, Beyoncé is now tied with Pharrell for the record of scoring at least one hit on the most radio charts. Both musicians have appeared on 18 tallies, though their lists of successes aren’t exactly the same. The music magazine confirmed that the Grammy champion has now earned at least a single win on all of the following radio-only rankings: Adult Alternative Airplay, Adult Contemporary, Adult Pop Airplay, Adult R&B Airplay, Country Airplay, Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Gospel Airplay, Latin Airplay, Latin Pop Airplay, Latin Rhythm Airplay, Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, Pop Airplay, R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, all-format Radio Songs, Rap Airplay, Rhythmic Airplay, Smooth Jazz Airplay, and Tropical Airplay.
Radio spins are playing a big part in making “Texas Hold ‘Em” a smash. The tune debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100 three weeks ago. In its second turn on that tally, it rose to No. 1, where it has now held for two frames.
“Texas Hold ‘Em” is currently present on nine of Billboard’s radio charts. It’s on the rise on almost all of them, though it is declining on the Country Airplay list, where, theoretically, one might have expected the decidedly country track to perform best. In addition to eight genre and format-specific rosters, it’s also climbing on the all-style Radio Songs chart.
