Jaime Camil Debuts As Host Of CBS Primetime Game Show ‘Lotería Loca’

Following

He's best known in the U.S. for his role as the over-the-top Rogelio de la Vega in Jane The Virgin and internationally as the leading man in telenovelas such as La Fea Más Bella and Por Ella Soy Eva, but now Mexican actor Jaime Camil, debuts as a game show host on CBS primetime.

The charismatic film and TV star is also executive producer of the one-hour Lotería Loca, which premieres Monday, October 2 at 9 pm ET/PT.

Musician Sheila E. is the show's band leader, giving the show top Latin star power.

The new CBS original series is inspired by the traditional Latin game of Lotería, much like bingo. In each episode, two players compete, strategically selecting cards to form a three-in-a-row combination, ultimately aiming to achieve "Lotería." The player who gets the most “Loterías” on their board the fastest, advances to the final round for a shot at claiming the ultimate million-dollar prize.

"I grew up playing Lotería with my family and friends back in México. I could say, without a shadow of a doubt, that every single Mexican family owned (and still owns) a Lotería game,” Camil said when CBS announced it had ordered the series earlier this year. “It helps connect with our heritage and emotional memories. There are restaurants, clothes, accessories, etc, all with Lotería designs; I mean, it’s just massive!"

What remains to be seen if this Latino-themed and hosted show can resonate with a massive audience, including among those who've never heard of the popular game.

Camil signed an exclusive first-look deal with Viacom International Studios (VIS) to develop projects for Paramount+ in March 2022.

Lotería Loca was created by Jeff Apploff, Aaron Solomon and Alejandro Trevino. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon and Apploff Entertainment. Jeff Apploff, Jaime Camil, Mike Darnell, Dan Sacks, Bridgette Theriault and Aaron Solomon are executive producers. Trevino serves as co-executive producer and Apploff as showrunner.
