Hugh Jackman has made it quite clear that the third Wolverine movie will be his last appearance as the hugely popular X-Men character. Now the star has given an update as to the status of Wolverine 3.

In an interview with Collider, Jackman explained the film's script was close to being ready. "We have a script. A full script," he said. "To tell you, two days ago I got that the full, finished--well, it's not finished, but we're getting super close--as you can see by the rate of my facial hair. That might give you a good clue to that perhaps. Yeah, it's sooner rather than later."

He was, however, less certain of when the movie would begin production. "I don't have a firm date yet," he admitted. "My thing and I've told you and I've told everyone, it's my last one, for me I want it to be perfect, so the moment I know it's perfect, bang, we'll go."

It is still unknown whether Jackman will make an appearance in this summer's X-Men: Apocalypse. A cameo role has been rumoured for some time, and last year it was reported that the actor would be involved in reshoots taking place this month. However, this is unconfirmed, and there was no sign of him in the film's recent trailer.

Wolverine 3 is to be directed by James Mangold, who previously helmed 2013's The Wolverine, which went on to make more than $400 million worldwide. It is scheduled for a 2017 release.
