There are very few games out there that have ever managed to garner as much controversy as Manhunt.
Rockstar Games’ 2003 stealth title was first released on the PS2 in 2003, before it later arrived on on PC and the original Xbox in 2004. Despite releasing to positive reviews, many criticised the game for its high level of violence. In case you were unfamiliar, players are put into the shoes of death row inmate James Earl Cash, who is tasked with killing enemies known as Hunters, and there’s plenty of choice when it comes to deciding how to take them out. From chainsaws to nail guns, machetes and meat cleavers, the deaths were as brutal as PS2-era graphics could possibly allow.

Although Manhunt also received a standalone sequel in 2007, Rockstar Games hasn’t touched the series since then. To be fair, that’s not really too surprising considering how controversial it was (plus, the studio has been keeping itself very busy with the upcoming new Grand Theft Auto instalment). Even so, fans haven’t forgotten about it, and as DSOGaming reports, YouTube creator EiermannTelevision has remastered Manhunt’s visuals using NVIDIA’s RTX Remix to add simulated path tracing to the game. In case you were unfamiliar, path tracing is essentially ray tracing but cooler, as it simulates light even better than before. Cyberpunk 2077 recently got an update on PC which added path tracing to the game (although it’s basically unplayable unless you own a very expensive PC setup).

Back to Manhunt though, and fans have been left very impressed by the upgrade: “It’s crazy what good lighting can do. This looks cool,” D-Tunez commented. “Damn, might need to [get] Manhunt sometime to try this,” Sniv Ten wrote.
As DSOGaming points out, the lighting upgrades don't look absolutely perfect just yet as there are some visual glitches, but it's a brilliant step-up from the original game. Take notes, Rockstar.
