A warning has been issued over the search to find Madeleine McCann, with suggestions the case could be about to “implode”.
It comes as sources claim a key witness is beginning to “wobble” and has issued a warning over their future participation in the case.
Helge B - a former friend of prime suspect Christian B - became the basis of a German investigation by issuing a damning statement against the convicted sex offender.
The key statement claims the pair were discussing Madeleine’s case while out drinking.

Christian B is reported to have said “she didn’t scream” during the exchange.
The apparent withdrawal of Helge B’s assistance could be the final nail in the coffin for the case, social commentator Candice Holdsworth has claimed.

“He’s backing off from what he’s been seeing and refusing to cooperate”, she said on GB News.
“If he continues to do that, Christian B is not cracking, then the whole thing could implode.
“People are saying this would be a huge blow, the Germans are convinced that Christian B was involved somehow.
“It’s also disappointing for Madeline McCann’s parents too.”

“Word is that Helge B is about to withdraw his evidence,” a source told The Sun.
“He was paid a huge sum to repeat his statement in a German newspaper and now he’s pulling the plug.
“It just goes to show you what type of people you are dealing with - and their credibility as witnesses.”
Police are hoping to bring Christian B to court for the suspected abduction and murder of three-year-old Madeleine in Portugal in 2007.
Probe prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters believes Helge B’s possible change of mind should mean little given the significance of his statement.
“Anyone who has said something must be measured by it. Witnesses are subject to the duty of truth - they have to testify”, he said.
“You can’t just choose something like that.”
Christian B is said to have written letters to friends asking them to back him if the case goes to court.
A former friend of the convicted sex offender and drug dealer said he is aware of two people on the Algarve who received messages, adding they were “really freaked out”.
