Ryan Reynolds is a girl dad – and he'd like to keep it that way.

In a new interview with Access to promote his Netflix film Red Notice, the actor revealed he was “quietly terrified” his third child—two-year-old Betty—would be a boy. In the end, he was wrong, and little Betty joined the ranks of his two other daughters with wife Blake Lively (six-year-old James and five-year-old Inez).

“I would not have it any other way,” Reynolds told Access, per People. “When we had our youngest, I was quietly terrified it was gonna be a boy because I didn't know, we didn't know. I didn't know anything but girls. I grew up with boys, and I was constantly being thrown through walls when there was a perfectly good door five feet away.”

Apparently, having three daughters was a bonding experience for Ryan and his Red Notice costars Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot, who also have three little girls with their respective partners. “We talk a lot about that, and there is a sort of shared experience there that I think is worth noting,” he told Access. “We love having our girls.”

Ryan Reynolds may be scared of the idea of having a son, but there was a time he “never in a million years would have imagined” raising all girls.

“I come from all boys. I have three older brothers. I’m the youngest of four boys, so for me to have three daughters has been such a ride,” he told Access in November 2020, per Us Weekly. “I love every second of it.”

In that same interview, he opened up about the secret to his and Blake's parenting style. “I just try to be as present as possible,” he told Access, per Us Weekly. “We don’t split up. Like, I shoot movies and my wife shoots movies and we go travel all over the place, and we just all go together. I think that’s been the best part of it is that we really don’t spend a lot of time apart. I get to spend a lot of time with my girls.”

He's about to get a lot more time with them. On October 17, the actor announced a break from acting to focus on parenting. “We all want to be together during this time,” he later told People. “Our kids are still quite young, and I don't want to miss it.”
