Fans have turned up the heat on Andre Ayew after he failed to convert a penalty for Ghana against Uruguay on Friday.
The Black Stars won a penalty after Jordan Ayew cut in and shot from outside the box before his effort was parried away by Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.
In the process, Rochet brought down Mohammed Kudus, and after a VAR check, the decision to award Ghana the penalty was confirmed.
However, Ayew’s weak conversion in the 21st minute was easily saved by Rochet. The penalty miss reminded the fans of a similar situation that cost Ghana a semi-final spot in 2010.
Asamoah Gyan could not convert from the spot then, and Uruguay eventually progressed after the post-match penalty shootout.
Gyan has been on the receiving end since then, but fans now say he can rest after Ayew’s poor conversion.
