Ana, Mia, & Me is a raw, vulnerable, and authentic memoir about Michelle's battle with Anorexia Nervosa at the young age of seventeen. I could relate to many moments feeling insecure about my own weight and body and feeling the struggle of looking at the scale, aiming to reach a lower number, feeling guilty about food, unhealthily restricting food intake, and feel uncomfortable in my body becoming obsessed and depressed about the way I looked exteriorly.

Sometimes we look at ourselves in the mirrors and don't like what we see, we feel insecure and feed ourselves with negative self-talk.

"The voices, however, that invade and consume the makings of you... they are not beautiful. If they say things to hurt you, to compromise your happiness, or try to change who you really are, they are ugly and they must go."

Something so special about this book is how real it truly is, as many quietly suffer and receive judgments from others, or feel alone (especially as teenagers) when dealing with eating disorders.

I hope Ana, Mia, & Me reaches the hands of anyone who is suffering, and I hope it gives them the strength to know that they are not alone. I think many would see themselves in the eyes of seventeen-year-old Michelle. I know I did. Thank you, my dear friend, for sharing your story.

Short look at an eating disorder, written when the author (now an adult, a ways out from it all) was a teenager. Pugle notes at the beginning that she'd thought long and hard about how much to rewrite the story—whether to tell it as an adult or through her younger voice—and ultimately chose the latter option. I could have used some more specifics, I think, as I found a lot of it to be written in broad strokes, but it was a quick read for the plane the other day.
