Bettie Page wasn’t called the “Queen of Pinups” for nothing: her striking, magnetic looks mesmerized a generation and played a part in the sexual revolution that would transform American society.
One of the first of Playboy‘s Playmates of the Month (Miss January 1955, to be exact), Page quit modeling at the peak of her career in 1957 and became an evangelical Christian just two years later, going on to work for evangelist Billy Graham. In his new documentary, “Bettie Page Reveals All,” Mark Mori — who directed the 1991 Oscar-nominated nuclear safety doc “Building Bombs”– chronicles Page’s rise, fall and eventual rebirth in the 1980s and ’90s as a cultural (and, in some ways, cult) icon.
Mori’s new film premieres in New York November 22 and opens in Los Angeles November 29. The doc delivers on its title, including nude photos of Page taken at an underground “camera club” in New York City that were apparently so steamy that they were nearly confiscated by police in 1952.
