If you think models wake up knowing how to achieve that bright, sun-kissed glow each morning, think again. As Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio revealed inside Monday night’s InStyle Awards, having countless photo shoots under your belt and a roster of talented artists on speed dial doesn’t mean you’ll have an upper hand in the hair and makeup chair.

Dressed in a white Alexandre Vauthier dress and a matching “bronzy, girly look, which I haven’t done in so many years,” the Brazilian bombshell was present to celebrate makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury’s award for Makeup Artist of the Year. “She’s a visionary. She’s not just a makeup artist. She can scan your face and see what you need to look better. She’s so good in there,” she told InStyle of Tilbury’s skill. “She’s taught me like little tricks that I need to do with my face. So it really, it’s going to look the way I want it. Sometimes you put makeup and you don’t know what you’re doing. She knows where to put the makeup."

And though Ambrosio has picked up several pro tips, her own work doesn’t compare to Tilbury’s magic touch. “As a model, I feel like we’re the most spoiled girls in the world because we get to work with the best makeup artists,” she said. “So when we try to do it ourselves, it’s never the same. People are like the best makeup artists in the world, they put the makeup on you, and you look amazing. Then, you try to do it at home, forget it. You don’t even try because usually you just have the makeup from the day you wear it and night to go to an event. So we don’t really learn how to do makeup. So for us, I feel like it’s way harder than any other girl.”
