Olympic gold medalist and five-time world champ Carissa Moore will be among the competitors at the Super Girl Surf Pro starting Friday in Jacksonville Beach. It's the first East Coast venue for the women's surfing event.

The Super Girl Surf Pro Contest & Festival comes to Jacksonville Beach this week for the first time with women's pro surfing, a dozen musical acts and more. Much of it will be live-streamed and some will show up on television at a later date.

After being staged in the San Diego area for 15 years, the event is now expanding to Jacksonville Beach for a four-year deal. The producer of the televised event — which is on the East Coast for the first time — has said he expects it to be an annual event at the Beaches for years to come.

Here's some of what we know about it:

What will be going on at the Super Girl Surf Pro Contest?

Surfing starts Friday at the Jacksonville Beach pier, and entertainment starts Saturday and continues on Sunday.

Here's what's on tap according to organizers:  a "World Surf League competition, concerts from major recording artists, a festival village, women’s beach volleyball, beach soccer and skateboarding competitions, free classes, speakers, video games, female DJ competitions and more."

Where's the schedule?

Check it out at supergirljax.com/event-schedule/.

Who's playing music?

There will be 12 free concerts Friday and Saturday, with headline acts including the Plain White T’s, Hoobastank, John K, and The Expendables.

Participants assemble for a photo in a recent clinic conducted by Carissa Moore during the Super Girl Surf Pro in Oceanside, Calif. Moore will host a similar event at the inaugural Super Girl Surf Pro festival in Jacksonville Beach.

What surfers are competing?

Most of the world's top pros and a few locals as well. Both women from the U.S. surf team at the recent Tokyo Olympics, gold-medal winner (and five-time world champ) Carissa Moore of Hawaii and Caroline Marks of Melbourne Beach, will be there, as will Sage Erickson, past Super Girl champ.

Surfing will be at the pier.

Round 1 of the WSL competition begins on Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. when 64 surfers from across the world will paddle out. Surfing starts at 8 on Saturday and 9 on Sunday.

How's the surf look?

They're often hit-or-miss, but forecasts say conditions look to be small but mostly clean throughout the competition, with probably the best waves on Friday.

Is it free?

Yes. Everything — the competitions, the concerts, activities at the festival village.

What if I miss it in person?

FOX Sports and ROOT Sports / AT&T SportsNet RSN will air parts of it in January and February. There's also a two-day live webcast with 16 hours of coverage on Twitch, YouTube, World Surf League, Surfline, The Inertia, Fuel TV and Facebook.
