2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Revealed

Adding new visual edge and gaining more performance than the last version sold here in 2007, the 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S has been unveiled. Based on the current Vanquish, this hottest version of the automaker’s range-topping GT will be available in both a 2-seat Coupes and 2+2 Volante convertibles.

The recast Vanquish S keeps its front-mounted, naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12. But the S sees horsepower climb from 565 to 595 in Euro trim or 580 in U.S. spec, with both still making 465 lb-ft of torque. Primary credit for that extra muscle goes to a new free-flowing intake manifold which also contributes to sharper throttle response. The engine is backed by a similarly upgraded version of the 8-speed Touchtronic III transmission that’s been recalibrated to deliver quicker shifts as well as a more refined feel during lower-stress cruising. The pairing helps this 3,834-pound supercar sprint from 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 mph.

To better leverage the added muscle, Aston Martin engineers also revised the suspension system on the new Vanquish S. The changes focused on recalibrating spring and stabilizer-bar bushing rates as well as the shock valving on its tri-mode Adaptive Damping System to enhance precision and agility. In keeping with its station, huge carbon ceramic brakes provide formidable stopping power.

Bolder beauty

The new Vanquish S reinforces its top-gun status with a more aggressive and aero-enhancing exterior starting with a new carbon fiber front splitter that works in concert with a new carbon fiber rear diffuser to reduce front lift at speed with minimal drag penalty. The Vanquish S also sports carbon fiber side sills and new dual-paired exhaust outlets. Those seeking greater personalization can add selection of optional touches that include carbon fiber hood louvers in place of the base titanium units, 20-inch 5-spoke forged lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero performance tires — and a choice of several exterior graphics packages.

While the basic Vanquish cabin design carries over, buyers have the choice of several upgrades that include special leather/Alcantara combos, micro-perforated leather seat inserts and a full-quilted leather upholstery design as well a selection of unique trim bits that include a new Satin Chopped Carbon Fiber dash. The extensive roster of equipment ranges from power everything to a 1000-watt Bang & Olufsen BeoSound audio package and the AMi III infotainment system with navigation, satellite radio, Bluetooth and iPhone integration with Apple CarPlay.

The 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Coupe starts at $297,775 while the Vanquish S Volante opens at $315,775. Both are on sale now with the first U.S. deliveries set to begin in April.
