Frank Cho was born Duk Hyun Cho in 1971 in Seoul, South Korea. At the age of six, he and his parents came to the United States where Frank became hyper-sensitive to all things American. Among his graphic influences are Don Newton, Franklin Booth, Joseph Coll, Neal Adams, Norman Rockwell, Harvey Kurtzman, Mort Drucker, Bill Watterson, Jeff Jones, Howard Pyle, N.C. Wyeth, Tex Avery, Al Capp, Walt Kelly, Frank Frazetta and Berkeley Breathed. By the time he was in high school, he was well on his way being an accomplished artist. In college he created several comic strips for the school papers, finally settling on 'University2' as his collegiate vehicle of expression. Upon graduation from the University of Maryland in 1996 with a degree in Nursing, he signed with Creators Syndicate, Inc. for a continuation of 'University2' as 'Liberty Meadows'.
Frank Cho enjoyed an amazing surge of popularity fueled by the success of his syndicated comic strip, 'Liberty Meadows', and his immaculate renderings of traditional adventure subjects for the pulp revival publications 'Titanic Tales' and 'Jimgrim and the Devil at Ludd'. His fans have started high-stakes bidding wars just to own a piece of his original art. His comic books constantly sell out issue after issue, with early issues now in their fourth printings. His college comic strip collection, 'University2, the Angry Years!' is now rapidly selling through its fifth printing.
While working on 'Liberty Meadows', he also did occasional work for other publishers. These included cover artwork for titles by Marvel and Dark Horse, as well as interior artwork for Marvel's 'Marvel Knights Spider-Man', 'The Astonishing Spider-Man', 'New Avengers', Mighty Avengers', 'Hulk', 'New Ultimates', 'Savage Wolverine' since 2004.
He has won the Charles Schulz Plaque for Excellence in Cartooning, the Scripps-Howard Award for Best College Cartoonist and the Ignatz Awards for Outstanding Artist and Outstanding Comic for 'Liberty Meadows'. He was married in April of 1999, and lives in the Baltimore area with his wife Cari and his wiener dog, Truman.
