Mouse control gives that fine control that a joystick fails to match. The best version of Arkanoid on the 8 and 16 bit Micros.

This definitely isn't "d'oh", you know Fantastically converted for Amiga, unlike so many arcade games. Simplistic yet totally addictive (seen that happening before...). Still, looks and sounds magnificent. ACE!

This definitely isn't an ST port (unlike Revenge of Doh, and Impact as it happens) - it was made by a totally different publisher and different developers on the other side of the Atlantic, using a totally different codebase. Note that Peter Johnson did both Arkanoids on the ST, but only Arkanoid 2 on the Amiga.
Impressively fast and smooth with 32 colours on screen, great collision detection, and the nice bonus of being able to start on any of the first 20 levels, to reduce the repetitiveness of some Breakout / Arkanoid variants.
There are reasonably varied level designs, a good difficulty curve, and the novelty of enemy aliens to hit with the ball or bat. Learning which powerups are good and which are bad, and that sometimes you should keep the one you have, is essential. The ball's rebound angles off the aliens aren't always perfect, but by and large losing the ball is your fault (or your mouse's).
I'm not the hugest fan of bat and ball games, but this is about as good as they get, and better than most contemporary clones. I prefer Poing for its (literally) sideways take on the genre though.
I love that the artist is called Bob Hires - very misleading as the graphics are clearly low-resolution...

Western developers at the time suffered from some sort of horror vacui: they could not bare any blank screen space even if it was so for original aspect ratio's sake. Arkanoid on the Amiga would have looked much cooler without that sort of panel reminding us the game's name, its original developers and the guys that ported it. Plus that copper transition is quite distracting. Well, enough with criticism: Arkanoid is a great classic and the Amiga version is just fantastic. As arcade perfect as it could have been in 1987 (8/10).

A superb conversion, Discovery also added a level select and a separate mode with their own levels.

I had it on C= 64 first but there I had Krakout which is way better. You can play it through (krakout) w/o cheat. Try this. Not a chance. Ball goes way to fast for no reason after a while. Begining speed would be nice for almost max speed....

Timeless classic and almost perfect use of the amiga in 1987 (50ips full screen). Discovery made great games.

Of all the versions of this arcade classic I know (and believe me I know A LOT of them) I personally think that the Amiga conversion is by far the most playable and I even find it way more addictive than the original Cabinet version ... Maybe if I would newly know about this game today I'd prefer the Arcade version though ... But back in time I absolutely didn't come clear to that damn trackball ... Couldn't get used to it independently of how much I tried ...
Anyway ... Go and play it in case you don't know it. Everyone should know this. You absolutely missed some' if you don't know Arkanoid ...

Quite good as an arcade conversion and very playable as such. I had played Amegas before, though, which kinda spoiled Arkanoid a bit, since I think Amegas was faster, more playable and overall a better game. Maybe I got it too late into it's life...

This is an excellent Amiga conversion of a timeless classic. Arkanoid is still pleasant to look at more than twenty years after its release. The gameplay is still as engaging as it was when I was younger. This game makes me feel old, but in a good way.

Arkanoid is a great game and this Amiga version sticks very closely to the arcade classic (apart from the ability to select any of the first 20 levels). In my opinion it’s the best looking conversion and certainly the smoothest with regards to game play, shadows, and graphics and with some nice backgrounds to make this a very aesthetically appealing game. Certainly one you’ll get frustrated with but at the same time you’ll want to beat it and keep coming back for more.

This one has nothing to do with the ST conversion. And yes, it runs at full frame rate and was the first arcade "perfect" conversion done on Amiga (Marble Madness came first but was less faithful i think).

A pretty faithful ST conversion that was ported to Amiga. All ok but why can't use a joystick instead of mouse?

The Amiga version of Arkanoid was a typical jerky multi-platform conversion written in jerky generic 68000 code in stead of utilizing the multi-processor power of the Amiga, resulting in a game that didn't manage to run in a smooth full frame rate, while there wasn't even scrolling involved.
I preferred better executed Break-out clones for the Amiga, such as Amegas, Crystal Hammer, Impact and the brilliant Megaball.

Pretty good conversion with (sensibly) mouse rather than joystick control.

Every Breakout fan must check this one out. A very good game and a big, big challenge.

It's quite a classic. I love breakout-type games and this is the original of that type which includes bonuses. I never get tired of it. Not much else to say, I think most know what this game is about

A very good conversion, which was much more compelling back in the days when free breakout clones weren't a dime a dozen... 7/10.

It was a very good conversion from the coin-up, but for some reason I'm more fond of the C64 version I played with the infamous Commodore Paddle! The paddle was not mine, but of a friend, so I remember me, in those winter afternoons, waiting anxiously for this friend of mine to come at my house with his paddles to play Arkanoid... Very good times...
on the Amiga it was not the same to play it with the mouse... And my friend with his paddles was gone...

The original and best. A cracking conversion which was almost arcade perfect. Dont think I will ever forget the "ping..pong" sounds as the ball hit the bat and blocks!

A flawless transition of arcade classic. I still don't have any idea what kind of controller original arcade game uses.

The ball picks up speed *way* too fast, so that's a notch down from the 8/10 I would have given this game before I played it again. Apart from that, this is a great game; the sound is better in the C64 version, but mouse-control makes it more playable on the Amiga.

Let's say: arcade perfect? Yes. Nothing is missing. Great game from Discovery Software.
Why these guys produced only few games (but what games!) remain a mystery...

This version of the game Arkanoid on the Amiga is not really as bad as C64 version. But C64 version is a lot better which I would agree to some people.

Classic brick breaking game. 10/10 because you'd be lucky to do a brick breaking game any better than this. The C64 version was better by the way. (11/10????)
