Echinacea pallida, pale cone flower, has heads with both ray and disk flowers. This is a common plant in native prairie remnants.

There are several species of Echinacea, and all were widely used by the Native Americans as medicinal plants. Today, there is much interest in using Echinacea in herbal medicines.
