🚀 Royal Schiphol Group's concessions revenue soared by +27% YoY to €205 million in 2023, surpassing the +17% recovery in passenger traffic, reaching 70.9 million across the group's airports, and +18% at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, hitting 61.7 million. 💼 COVID-19 restrictions lifted in 2023 boosted concessions revenue. Impact of massive increase in Airport lounge traffic needs to be studied. The time spent at rest of airport is down and coming from high ARPU customers which is leading to reduced sales at retail stores. Banks funding the lounge and recovering via card spends. Customers love it as there's no direct cost to them. Once again demonstrates that: Advertising model (indirect cost) > subscription model(direct cost) However in this case the platform which is Airport can decide to change the rules at any point when the model starts hurting (due to lower rentals owing to reduced sales for stores) them. This is single biggest downside risk to the lounge business Even the airlines inflight meal purchase is down slightly as consumers have already used lounge prior to boarding.
