Corporate Bureau Chief at The Wall Street Journal

In the years after his conviction for a sex crime with a teen, Jeffrey Epstein spun a web of influence that included many powerful and wealthy people. A Wall Street Journal investigation by Khadeeja Safdar and David Benoit shows that his circle of associates was much wider than previously known by digging into a new trove of documents, including Epstein's schedules and emails that haven't been reported. In the first story in this series, we reveal how he had meetings with: Bills Burns before he became CIA director; a former White House lawyer who is now Goldman Sachs general counsel;  a member of the Rothschild banking dynasty; a Kissinger consultant; the longtime president of Bard College; and political activist Prof. Noam Chomsky. The investigation also reveals what many of these people sought from Epstein (advice, clients, donations, friendship) and how he operated behind the scenes – sometimes providing favors and sometimes making connections. He also misrepresented himself to expand his web, the documents show. Most of these people told us they visited Epstein for reasons related to his wealth and connections. Several said they thought he had served his time and had rehabilitated himself.  Others said they didn't know about his past. Read the first story – and stay tuned for the rest of the series:    https://lnkd.in/eUhjmYWY
