I was NOT expecting to like this show as much as I did. It’s not as cheesy as you might think, which makes for an interesting teen drama. It somehow has a really great balance of the dramatic and comedic elements. It’s one of the most popular teen shows, right up there with Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. (golden trio, anyone?) The characters are all really well fleshed out, and even though they can be really cliched at times, you get pulled into all their individual storylines. Although the actual plot is kind of basic, it’s still a really great watch if you’re running out of things to binge on Netflix (thanks, quarantine!). However, the absolute greatest part of the show is how attractive EVERY SINGLE PERSON is. Good. Lord. I mean, teen drama, it’s kind of expected, but theCW casting department REALLY went off with these actors. Even if you hate the plot and don’t care about the character development, you will fall in love with every single person in Mystic Falls. It’s worth a watch simply for that reason, honestly.

My Favorite Characters:
Candice King as Caroline Forbes - BEST BEST BEST CHARACTER. she is insanely cool. aside from her slightly questionable taste in men (tyler lockwood? really?), she is a bada*s and i love her the mostest. she’s also kind of the queen of character development. i love her growth from caring about very surface-level things to proving that she’s more than just a dumb blonde. i’m not quite done with the show yet, but i can’t wait to see where her character goes.
Daniel Gillies as Elijah Mikaelson - arguably the hottest guy on the show. (please do not come for me in the comments) aside from being very very good looking, he is also a gentleman to the highest degree. his relationships with his siblings is actually UNMATCHED. we stan a respectful king.
Zach Roerig as Matt Donovan - sorry to the die-hard tvd fans, but i freaking LOVE matt. he’s such a sweetheart. okay, maybe he’s not one of my favorite favorite characters, but he doesn’t deserve all the hate he gets.
