Varane might be sidelined for Real's home game against Celta

Raphaël Varane was forced to leave Tuesday's match against Cornellà because of small problems on his right leg, and while this didn't appear to be a big issue, the French defender will likely have to sit Saturday's contest against Celta out.

Although Varane could probably make it if this match was an important game, Carlo Ancelotti will not rush him back because Sergio Ramos and Pepe will be their choice at the center back position anyway. Both of them were able to rest during the Copa del Rey fixture, and that means they are Ancelotti's starters.

One way or another, Varane's injury will only keep him out for a week or so. Real Madrid host Ludogorets in the Champions League next Tuesday, and that's a game in which he could probably make his return, but Real Madrid's situation in the European competition will also give him some more room to recover properly and get ready for the FIFA Club World Cup.
