Madonna was urgently admitted to hospital due to a bacterial infection that almost cost her life last summer.

The artist, now recovered, is in full 'Celebration Tour' mode and she is still enjoying her fans and music at 65 years old. In one of her recent concerts, the Michigan artist recalled the scary incident and how she overcame it with the help of specialists.

During a break in the show in Los Angeles, Madonna surprised her fans with a speech in which she thanked Dr. David Agus, who was present in the audience, for his work in saving her life.

"This summer I had a surprise. I had a near-death experience - yes, and I'm not kidding! It was pretty scary. Obviously, I didn't know for four days, because I was in an induced coma," she recalled.

How Madonna's recovery went

According to the singer herself, her first word upon waking up was "no" and in her 'speech' she explained why: "I'm pretty sure God was telling me: 'Do you want to come with us? Do you want to come with me? Do you want to go this way?' And I said: 'No. No".

During the recovery process, Madonna said that her doctor persuaded her to get "in the sun" because it would help her liver - which was damaged during the illness - to reactivate.

"It was very difficult for me to walk from my house to my backyard and get in the sun," the artist added, appearing emotional as fans applauded her bravery.

"I know it sounds crazy, but it was hard and I didn't know when I could get up again, when I could be myself again and when I would get my energy back," she said. Meanwhile her tour has proved that, after several months, she is back to being herself with batteries charged, in top shape and ready to continue with her career.
