No matter what the sample size, Joe Harris is tearing up the NBA

Tuesday night, in Phoenix, Joe Harris had one of his best games of the season, leading the comeback charge against the Suns along with James Harden. He scored 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting overall and 4-of-9 from deep to go along with four rebounds and an assist.

One game of course is a small sample. So let’s go broader. How about 10 games? In the last 10 games, the Nets starting small forward is averaging 16.6 points, including his career-high 30 points. Moreover, he’s shooting NBA arena lights out. In that stretch, Harris is 60-for-103 or 58.3 percent overall and 53.6 from three. And yes, he had his career high in threes —eight— during those 10 games.

Now, let’s go even bigger, the season so far The numbers are still high. So far, he’s averaging 14.9 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 52.9 percent overall and 49.5 percent from three. How’s he doing compared to the rest of the NBA.

As Brooklyn native Larry David might say, pretty, pretty good.

Now, let’s go real big, the all-time numbers. Harris is currently the fifth best 3-point shooter in NBA history, hitting 43.45 percent, 3/100ths of a percentage point ahead of Steph Curry. In recent years, he’s passed his coach, Steve Nash, Kyle Korver and 3-point specialists like Jason Kapono and Steve Novak. At this point, the only shooters ahead of him are Drazen Petrovic, Hubert Davis, Seth Curry and Steve Kerr.

In Nets annals, Harris has moved past Petrovic as the Nets best 3-point shooter ever, 43.85 percent to 43.74 percent. (Both Harris and Petrovic played for other teams before joining the Nets, the Cavaliers for Harris, the Blazers for Petrovic.) And he’s now No. 2 on the Nets all time list of three’s made, passing Kerry Kittles Tuesday with his 688th three. Only Jason Kidd, with 813, has more.

So, we can say Joe Harris has scaled up big. Not bad for a guy who at age 24 was dumped by two NBA teams, the Cavaliers and Magic, in salary dumps during a single day.

All-Star reserves will be chosen Tuesday. Just sayin’.
