British actress Lucy Gordon, who appeared in “Spider-Man 3” was found dead in her apartment in an apparent suicide.
Although there is no suspicion of foul play, police are questioning the 28-year-old’s boyfriend about the night leading up to her death.
According to police, neighbors overheard the British actress and her boyfriend arguing on Tuesday night. Gordon’s beau, whose name has not been released, told police he went to bed and woke up to find Gordon hanging from the ceiling of their apartment in Paris, reports the Daily Mail.
He then ran downstairs to a local shop owner, yelling, “Call the police – my friend has hung herself.”
The former Cover Girl model had recently suffered the loss of a close friend, also to suicide, and her boyfriend told police Gordon was seriously troubled by the death.
Gordon, who would have been 29-years-old tomorrow, had moved to Paris to play the role of Jane Birkin in “Vie Heroique” (Heroic Life), currently being previewed at the Cannes Film Festval. The film tells the story of French singer Serge Gainsbourg, and Gordon’s performance in the biopic earned her praise from Birkin herself.
One organizer at Cannes told the Mail, “We are devastated by this news. All those attending the festival had been hugely impressed by Lucy’s work. She was a star in the making.”
Gordon was 15 when she signed on as a Cover Girl model, and in a public statement from his home in Oxford, her father Richard Gordon said his daughter was always meant for the spotlight.
“She’s always loved being on stage and in front of the camera, and she has kept all her naturalness and charm all the way through,” he said. “Her career had been just taking off, and it’s a tragedy that it has been cut short so soon.”
He would not speak about the potential cause of the suicide, saying only, “The death has come completely out of the blue. Everything about how she died is just speculation at the minute, and we want to concentrate on paying tribute to our daughter.”
An autopsy will take place to determine the circumstances of Gordon’s death, and an investigation of friends and family is underway to determine the young star’s possible motives.
