Fergie and Josh Duhamel shocked fans when they announced their split after eight years of marriage earlier this week. But according to Us Weekly the couple was trying to expand their family.
The duo who wed in Malibu in January 2009 are parents of 4-year-old son Axl. Sources tell Us Weekly that a few months ago they were trying to have another child.
“They were trying to have another baby as of last year,” the source revealed. “There had been a lot of talk in Fergie and Josh’s household about expanding the family.”
Fergie, 42, began dating Duhamel, 44, in September 2004, after she met him when she and the rest of the Black Eyed Peas filmed a cameo for an episode of Duhamel’s show “Las Vegas.”
The “Transformers” actor sheepishly admitted that his first words to his future wife were “You’re hot.”
“It sounds corny when you say it, but I think she knew I was sort of saying it tongue-in-cheek because she had already known that I had a little bit of a crush on her while she was there and it was sort of a way of saying something she already knew,” he told E! News in 2014.
Both are reportedly devoted to their son, and the split is amicable.
“They are still very friendly and get along,” the source dished.
Next up for Fergie is her second sole album “Double Dutchess,” which includes songs about heartbreak.
