In 2003 in Mexico, the production of the air cooled VW Beetle came to a halt.
After roughly 60 years of building the cars...the end was here and Volkswagen of Mexico
built the last ones off the line as tribute cars for all that came before them.
Dubbed the "Ultima Edition", these limited production cars were available in only two colors, featured
whitewall tires and special badging. The pair of cars you see above are one of each color...the matched set.
Collectors have gobbled these up world wide and stashed them in their showrooms and collections.
A few have been put on the road of course, but regulations here in the US make registration difficult.
In California, where the cars are located, they simply can not be road registered as they sit...it is a shame
because it would be so awesome to have a "brand new" Beetle to drive!
I understand that in some states, people have tagged them and are cool, but I do not know the rules
in this regard, so please check with your local DMV to see for sure.
I have also seen older era Beetles, basically "rebuilt" with all the new parts from a Mexican model...
in essence making a new car, but on the chassis of an earlier model.
The cars currently have Mexican titles in the name of the original owner, they are legitimate in all regards as far as ownership.
If you are buying them for collection display only, the issue is a small one, and that is some folks have dealt with it.
If you are outside of the US, you have free reign...easily imported and titled in your home country.
The blue car (well both cars actually) are like brand new with very minimal miles
and both have all the original equipment including tires in amazing like new condition.
The early style Wolfsburg hood badge is one of the factory installed special bits
that are a part of the Ultima Edition package.

The blue car has 1366 original Kilometers since new.
Only the slightest hint of road grime...if these were mine I would polish the chassis and keep it perfect for all eternity.
These are the very last of the breed...definitely investment grade vehicles.
A tad bit of surface rust on some of the steel parts under the engine...but nothing needing attention.
Still all new... so cool!
Now on to the cream color car....
also all like new...interesting to see some of the little changes
that were made on these Mexican cars such as the hood seal being on the hood itself...pretty smooth!
Original tool rolls in both cars.
Matching spare wheels and tires.
Manuals for both cars and Mexican ownership paperwork.
Factory installed fire extinguisher.
Modern radio and switches.
The cream car has 4476 original Kilometers.
Beautiful!!
Another touch of the Ultima editiion is the chrome taillight rings.
Thje engines are fuel injected 1600cc units with hydraulic lifters, alternator and all the modern bits.
These engines run so smooth!
Not much more that I can say about these cars...they are both extremely clean very low mileage examples that
will be a compliment to any collection. Figure out the registration process in the US and you have the ultimate daily driver.
