Lynn Whitfield's Personal "Activism" Against Hollywood's Issues with Aging

Season 6 Episode 606
Aired on 08/23/2017 | CC tv-pg
Ageism has long been considered a problem in Hollywood, with mature actresses often relegated to one-dimensional motherly and grandmotherly roles onscreen. Emmy-winning actress Lynn Whitfield, however, has come up with her own way to address this industrywide challenge.

"I think that femininity, sensuality doesn't go away," Lynn says. "You have that creative opportunity to share it all and really to have a bit of activism just in how you approach it, to not give in to all of that, to give them an option that perhaps they didn't think of."

On a personal level, Lynn adds that she plans to stay true to herself for the duration of her career. "It's up to me to still feel that I am a sensual woman," she says. "Nobody is going to, you know, just get inside my spirit and say, 'Okay, you can't feel like that.' I own me."
