The Search for America’s Champion Go-Go Boy

GoGo for the Gold

Are you ready to get the party started and have a butt-shaking good time?

Everyone’s favorite Hey Qween host Jonny McGovern and his bestie, go-go veteran and OnlyFans star Greg McKeon, are on the hunt for “America’s #1 Champion Go-Go Superstar Star” in OUTtv’s hilarious new competition series, GoGo for the Gold.

“This is the first reality competition for go-go boys,” McGovern explains. “Of course, it was inspired by the many years that Greg and I have worked very closely with go-go boys. I threw parties in New York for many years where the go-go boys were really the focus of the night, so I know how creative, talented, interesting, and dramatic they are. Greg and I threw some of the hottest go-go parties in LA for a good number of years back in the day, and we always made the go-go boy the star. We knew there was an untapped wealth of go-go talent out there that would be perfect for reality TV, so we created the show together.”

“We just want to give them more of a spotlight,” McKeon adds. “These people work so hard to bring a good energy to the club, and we need to show them some love too. I hope audiences will learn about these different guys and learn what makes them the unique people that they are.”

Competing for a $10,000 cash prize, McGovern and McKeon assembled a diverse cast of go-go dancers that encompass a wide range of body types. From traditional, masculine hunks to thick ‘n juicy bears, smooth twinks, femme dancers serving it up in heels, along with a trans performer, audiences will never know what to expect.

“Beyond elevating the art of go-go and highlighting the other stars of queer nightlife, the fact that the cast is so diverse is really special,” McGovern says. “I think a lot of people might hear a show for go-go boys and think we just have 12 muscle queens who all look alike. These guys are all so different, and they are bringing sexy in their own way. To me, that was one of the most exciting things. Not only do we get to know them, but we gave them this place to show off their skills and what makes them special, regardless of whether they fit into the typical idea of what a go-go boy is. They all have star quality.”

To win, each competitor must undergo a series of challenges that comprise the many facets of being a champion go-go. Impeccable dance skills are pivotal, but go-go boys are also influencers, fashion models, and nightlife representatives. Their journeys will be packed with humor, dramatic twists, tongue-in-cheek fun, and most likely some tears.

While McGovern is the show’s host, McKeon serves as one of the judges.

“We scored on four important criteria: Fantasy, Body, Dance, and Individuality,” he says.

The other judges include Teddy Bear, Adrian Hart, and JoJo Guadz.

“The judges are set up as the Go-Go Gods, and they represent the four categories,” McGovern says. “Greg is the God of Fantasy, Teddy is the God of Individuality, Adrian is the God of Body, and JoJo is the God of Dance. The contestant that exemplifies all those qualities will become ‘America’s #1 Champion Go-Go Superstar Star.’ And yes, you must say the full title.”

One or more competitors will be eliminated each week until the final strip down when GoGo for the Gold crowns its ultimate stud.

McKeon, who has been go-go dancing since he was 21 years old, credits go-going with launching his Hollywood career. In addition to landing multiple roles in movies and TV shows, he is also a resident lap dancer on Hey Qween.

“I started go-go dancing while I was a student at UC Berkeley,” he says. “I wanted to make some money, and I thought it was a lot of fun. I was very shy at first, and the first time I stepped up on top of the bar, my heart was racing, but I relished in the attention. That first night, I made over $500, and I never looked back. I worked every weekend or whenever I could get gigs. I just loved how it added energy to the party, and I have gotten to meet so many different people, go to different cities, and dance in different clubs. That was the best part. In LA, it’s sometimes hard for people to meet other people, but when you’re a go-go dancer, you meet and talk to everybody.”

He and McGovern first met when McGovern needed dancers for this debut music video, “Sexy Nerd.” Also known as “The Gay Pimp,” McGovern began his career in nightlife entertainment 20 years ago.

“When I first moved to LA, I was doing my Gayest of All Time album, and I was shooting a ton of videos,” he recalls. “I had asked around who the best go-go boys were, and of course, Greg was at the top of the list. I don’t think we actually met before, but he came to the video shoot. Living in LA, the thing that really makes LA either a make or break for you is the kind of people that you meet and hang out with. We really gravitated towards each other, and we’ve been best friends ever since.”

Currently, McGovern is touring the U.K. with burlesque legend Dita Von Teese, performing “Man Areas,” a song from Gayest of All Time that recently became a TikTok sensation. The song has appeared in videos viewed over 12.5 million times and has received over seven million streams on Spotify.

As for Hey Qween, fans can expect some upcoming specials next year.

Hey Qween has been on a break because GoGo for the Gold took over my entire life for the last six months,” he laughs. “So, I am excited to get back to doing that sometime next year. We don’t want to just let it disappear.”

On the other hand, McKeon is currently working on his book GoGo for Love, which chronicles his 10 years as a go-go dancer and self-acceptance as a gay man.

“It’s been something that I’ve been working on for quite a while,” he says. “It’s not something that I’m trying to rush because I’m trying to make it as impactful as I can.”
