Sophia Loren is one of the last surviving movie stars of the classic Hollywood era at 89 years old. Unfortunately, she took a fall and fractured her hip and thigh bones a few weeks ago at her home in Geneva, Switzerland. Now, her manager Carlo Giuisti is giving an update on her health and how she has been recovering from her injuries.

He said that she had to have surgery after the fall and it went very well. Now he said, “Everything [is] going well. At least a few months of rehabilitation are needed.” Loren celebrated her birthday just days before the incident and had to cancel an upcoming event.

While Loren has mostly retired from Hollywood, she did appear in the 2020 Netflix film The Life Ahead, in which she plays a Holocaust survivor with a daycare business. She received high praise for the role, which was her first in several years.

In the 1950s, Loren was a huge part of Italian cinema and starred in films such as 1954’s The Gold of Naples and 1955’s La Bella Mugnaia. She won an Oscar for Best Actress in 1960’s Two Women, which was the first major Academy Award to go to a non-English language performance.

Wishing her a speedy recovery!
