      Critics Consensus

Batman: The Movie elevates camp to an art form -- and has a blast doing it, every gloriously tongue-in-cheek inch of the way.

David C Los efectos son buenos para ser de 1966 la historia es buena, chistosa y divertida Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Rami A It may not have aged well, but it certainly was great for its time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/24 Full Review Lou T The world of comic books was a much different place in the 1960's. With the Comics Code Authority forcing all stories to be more family friendly, the Silver Age of comics saw a lot of heroes take on different roles in the wider world. Showing a much lighter version of the character, Batman: The Movie gives us a very different version of the character than modern audiences are used to today. Spinning out of the incredibly successful TV show, many of the shows cast members are brought in to reprise their roles for the big screen. With Adam West & Burt Ward as our lead heroes, Batman & Robin, they face off against 4 of their most conniving foes from the series. The duo are amusingly fun and the actors work so well off each other, as true pals. The acting, though cheesy, is quite charming as a time capsule of the time, with all heroes and villains creating delightful performances. The story plays like a rather long episode of the show and, while there are some very iconic moments, it gets very repetitive and boring as the story stretches longer. The visuals are a mix of cute and cheap, with the Batcave and villain lairs always looking as if they stepped off the page of a comic. The dialogue can go over the top at points, but it almost seems self aware of its own cheesiness while poking fun at it. Though it is often looked at as a joke, this may be the most faithful adaptation of Batman so far. Every moment perfectly encapsulates the 60's style comics, with the playful tones and bright, smiling heroes that were expected at the time. Batman: The Movie shows a wonderful insight into an older age of superheroes, but fails to feel like more than a longer episode of the series. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review BRENDEN J Best Batman movie ever made. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/30/23 Full Review Keith N Campy as hell, but that's what it's supposed to be and thats why I love this film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/30/23 Full Review Audience Member So I decided to rewatch all the Batman movies, because why not. This movie is really campty, it was just fine to me. Although I still thought it was pretty solid, and it’s enjoyable. Overall I would give this movie a 6/10, but i get why it is campty and it’s sure better then the Joel Schumacher Batman films. Variety Staff Variety Batman is packed with action, clever sight gags, interesting complications and goes all out on bat with batmania: batplane, batboat, batcycle, etc. etc. Jul 22, 2008 Full Review Time Out I'd choose Adam West's Batmobile over Michael Keaton's any day. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... fans of the small screen show will enjoy the spoofing tone throughout. Leslie H. Martinson directs Lorenzo Semple’s screenplay like a big budget TV episode minus the cliffhanger endings. Dec 3, 2022 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault As you’d expect, this movie is as dumb as a box of hair, but God, is it fun — a perfect guilty pleasure. Rated: B Aug 30, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Clearly intended to appeal only to longtime fans of the series, which has done much to make the Dark Knight and his Boy Wonder sidekick cartoonish caricatures rather than earnest crime-fighters. Rated: 6/10 Aug 29, 2022 Full Review Cory Woodroof Lumination Network While it's hilarious to watch the cheesiness of the film, it's also interesting to see how far Batman has come from the sixties.
