About The Artwork
Back in 2021, I participated in an art residency program in Ilhabela Sao Paulo. It was close to the Tupi-Guarani tribe reservations. I meet this girl selling crafts and asked permission to take a photo. She happily agreed. I can't remember her name. So, I search a Tupi-guarani list of names and found Anahi. Anahi means “beautiful like the flower” in Tupi-Guarani. It fits her unconventional beauty. She is one of a series of 13 portraits depicting various ethnicities. Updated number as of 10/18/2022. My technique consists in select magazine pages within a color palette, then I roll them into tubes that are the core of my work.
