Head-to-Head: Brazil v Korea Republic
· Brazil (W6-D0-L1) have lost only one of their seven matches (all friendlies) with Korea Republic. That was on 28 March 1999 in a 1-0 away defeat. Kim Do-Hoon scored the 90th minute winner.

· These sides have already met in 2022. On 2 June Brazil beat Korea Republic 5-1 in Seoul. Richarlison (7'), Neymar (42' penalty, 57' penalty), Philippe Coutinho (80') and Gabriel Jesus (90+3') all netted for Brazil. Hwang Ui-jo scored for Korea Republic.

· Brazil have not lost to a team from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) this century (W25-D3-L0). Their loss against Korea Republic in 1999 is their only defeat against a team from the continent (W35-D4-L1).

· Korea Republic (W6-D4-L2) have lost only two of their last 12 matches against teams from CONMEBOL, their only games against Brazil in that period (3-0 in Abu Dhabi in November 2019 and 5-1 in Seoul in June 2022).

· Korea Republic drew 0-0 with Uruguay in Al Rayyan in the first group stage game of this World Cup. They have never beaten a South American team at the World Cup (W0-D2-L4).

· Son Heung-min and Richarlison, teammates at Tottenham Hotspur could face each other in this game.

Brazil Stats
· Brazil had qualified for the round of last 16 after their first two matches of this World Cup (2-0 win versus Serbia, 1-0 win versus Switzerland). They lost to Cameroon in injury time in their third match but still advanced as Group G winners.

· Gracenote Nielsen's forecast still predicts Brazil (21% chance) as the favourites to lift the 2022 World Cup. Brazil have a 32% chance of reaching the final.

· Brazil have advanced from their round of last 16 match at the last seven World Cups. The only time they were taken to a penalty shootout in those games was against Chile at their home World Cup in 2014 (1-1 after extra-time). Neymar scored the winning penalty.

· Brazil's last defeat in the round of last 16 came in 1990 against South American rivals Argentina (1-0), captained by Diego Maradona. Claudio Caniggia (81') scored the late winner.

· Since 2020 Brazil (W25-D4-L2) have lost only two matches; 1-0 to Argentina in the 2021 Copa América final and 1-0 to Cameroon in their last match.

· Brazil can fail to score in consecutive matches for the first time since November 2010-February 2011, friendly defeats against Argentina (1-0 in Al Rayyan) and France (1-0 in Paris Saint-Denis).

· Brazil were one of six sides to concede one goal at most in this year's group stage (versus Cameroon). Brazil conceded three goals in the group stage in 2002, the last time they won the World Cup.

· Brazil have failed to net in the first half of any of their last five World Cup matches. Each of their last seven goals at the tournament were scored in the second half.

· Richarlison (2) is Brazil's top goalscorer at this World Cup. Neymar (4 in 2014) was the last Brazil player to score three or more goals at a World Cup.

· Dani Alves (39y-210d) became the oldest Brazil player to play for Brazil at the World Cup in the last match against Cameroon. He could line up with 38 year-old Thiago Silva in this game.

· Neymar is a doubt for this game and has missed the last two matches. Since his Brazil debut in 2010 Brazil have won 73% (89 out of 122) of matches with Neymar, they have won 62% (28 out of 45) without him.

· Thiago Silva and Neymar are the only players in the Brazil squad that have scored a goal in a World Cup knockout match: Thiago Silva versus Colombia in the quarter-final in 2014 (2-1 win) and Neymar versus Mexico in the round of last 16 in 2018 (2-0 win).

· Bruno Guimarães, Fred and Éder Militão will be suspended if booked. Danilo, Alex Sandro and Neymar are all injury doubts. Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus are highly unlikely to feature with longer term injuries.

Korea Republic Stats
· Korea Republic beat Portugal 2-1 in the last Group H matchround with goals from Kim Young-gwon (27') and Hwang Hee-chan (90+1'). Before the second goal Korea Republic were in fourth position in the group.

· Korea Republic became the first team to qualify on goals scored since Paraguay (6) versus South Africa (5) in 2002.

· Gracenote Nielsen's forecast gives Korea Republic a 23% chance of progressing against Brazil, the lowest chance of progression of any of the round of last 16 teams.

· Korea Republic progressed from the round of last 16 the only other time the World Cup was in Asia. They beat Italy 2-1 on home soil in Daejeon in 2002. In their only other appearance at this stage they lost 2-1 to Uruguay in 2010.

· Korea Republic can win successive World Cup matches for the first time since 2002 (2). The first win of that pair was also a win against Portugal (1-0). In the next match they won 2-1 against Italy to progress to the quarter-finals.

· Only Germany's Jamal Musiala (12) recorded more shot attempts without scoring a World Cup group stage goal than Son Heung-min (9).

· Son (3) can become the first Korea Republic player to score four goals at the World Cup. He is currently tied with Ahn Jung-Hwan and Park Ji-Sung. Only Park (2002, 2006, 2010) has netted at more World Cups for the Koreans than Son (2014, 2018).

· Son is joint-fourth alongside Kim Jae-Han (both 35) in Korea Republic's all-time leading goalscorers. The top three are Cha Bum-Keun (58), Hwang Sun-Hong (50) and Park Lee-Chun (40).

· Hwang Hee-chan has scored three goals in his last four appearances for Korea Republic. He has scored only two goals in his last 39 appearances for club-side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

· Goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu saved only 56% of the shots he faced in the group phase, the lowest percentage by a goalkeeper reaching the round of last 16 in this World Cup.

· Cho Gue-sung, Kim Young-gwon, Lee Kang-in, Jung Woo-young and Hwang Hee-chan will be suspended with a yellow card in this game. Kim Young-gwon is doubtful for this game with injury.
