It’s hard to believe that the Spice Girls are currently celebrating their 25th anniversary. Yep, it’s been a quarter of a century since Scary, Baby, Sporty, Ginger and Posh Spice first burst onto the scene and became the biggest-selling girl band of all time.

But it’s not just us normal folk who are celebrating. Back in the 90s, many of the A-list stars we know and love today were regular people who also loved the Spice Girls. So it’s no surprise celebrities are speaking out about how Girl Power shaped them to become who they are today.

Here are seven mega stars who were inspired by the Spice Girls.

Adele has made no secret of her love for the Spice Girls, and has often credited them for her career success. So when the band reunited in 2019, Adele was right there in the crowd, singing and dancing away, 21 years after first seeing them.

“Tonight with my nearest and dearest I cried, laughed, screamed, danced, reminisced and fell back in love with my 10-year-old self,” Adele posted online.

“It’s no secret how much I love them, how much they inspired me to run for my life and never look back. I finally got to meet Ginger, I got drunk with the girls and quite frankly I can’t believe how far I’ve come,” she added.

Adele also spoke about her deep love for the band to James Corden during an episode of Carpool Karaoke, performing their hits in a now-viral clip.

Emma Stone

Like most 90s kids, Emma Stone was a massive Spice fan growing up. And if you think her name being the same as that of one of the band members is an accident, think again.

During an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Stone revealed how she loved Baby Spice so much that she renamed herself after her idol.

“I was super blonde, and my real name is Emily, but I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice. And guess what? Now I am,” Stone revealed. “So that’s, like, pretty messed up ... in second grade, did I go up to the teacher on the first day and ask her to call me Emma? Yes, I did. And was it because of Emma Lee Bunton from the Spice Girls? Yes, it was.”

Stone attended the 2019 Spice Girls reunion tour where she finally got the meet her idol, Emma Bunton. To make the experience even more special, the band did a musical rendition of the theme song La La Land from Stone’s hit movie of the same name during a concert and dedicated it to her.

She is one of the most iconic singers of our time and hails from one of the world’s biggest girl bands herself – but it turns out even Queen Bey was inspired by the Spice Girls.

During a chat on the Breaking Beauty podcast earlier this year, Victoria Beckham revealed: “I met Beyoncé a few years ago, and she actually said to me, ‘It was the Spice Girls that inspired me and made me want to do what I do and made me proud to be a girl and proud to be who I am.’”

In 2018, Twitter user Bria Madrid made a surprise discovery: “Found a picture when I was five at my first concert, Spice Girls, and took a picture with a girl dressed up as Baby Spice, who I just realised now was Blake Lively,” she posted.

The image, which quickly went viral, was taken at the Spice Girls’ show at Glen Helen Amphitheater in 1997, way before Lively became an A-list actress.

Of course, it caught the attention of the famous actress, who responded, “My secret is out.”

Lively later posted the snap on her on social media, which got a response from Baby Spice herself, who wrote: “So cute, you’re rocking those pigtails.”

“I cannot believe you know who I am. This will never be normal,” Lively fangirled back at her idol.

She may be one of the most fashionable stars in showbiz thanks to shows like Emily in Paris, but Lily Collins actually takes inspiration from Posh Spice.

She told Glamour: “I grew up adoring the Spice Girls. And you can’t touch Victoria when it comes to fashion. She owns every outfit she wears. I don’t know how she handles all of those kids – and in heels!”

During an interview for Net-a-Porter, Collins proved she knows all the lyrics to the Spice Girls’ songs while impressively lip syncing along to Wannabe. “I will gladly be the next member. I’m telling you, even the rap part I know,” she joked in the clip.

Collins was one of the many A-list stars that flocked to the band’s 2019 reunion tour, and posted photos from backstage with the band, making her lifelong dream of meeting the band come true.

Billie Eilish

She may not have been around during the peak of the Spice Girls success in the 90s, but singer Billie Eilish believed the Spice Girls were characters while growing up.

Speaking on Capital FM, Eilish said she originally thought their Spiceworld film was “a made-up movie about a group of girls who sang”.

“I thought all the music was written for the movie,” she said. “I thought all the characters were cast for those characters. I didn’t figure it out until two years ago.”

During a different interview on The Ellen Show, she added: “I watched that movie like 40 times. I remember seeing Spice Girls [were coming back] and thinking, ‘Oh my god, they’re re-enacting the movie.’”

Eilish eventually met Sporty Spice Melanie C, when the Spice Girl attended one of her London concerts. She later posted: “Billie is an extraordinary talent and seeing young girls screaming with her every move and singing every word of her lyrics, gave me goosebumps.”

As an extra spicy treat, Melanie C was asked to present Billie with her International Female Solo Artist award on stage at the Brit Awards 2020.
