Zooey Deschanel has slowed things down since giving birth to a baby girl last July. But with the return of her sitcom, New Girl, and an appearance on Redbook's May cover, it looks like the actress, singer, and producer is getting back in the swing of things—just don't ask her about her post-baby body.

Deschanel told Redbook she doesn't understand the mentality of wanting women to be pregnant one moment and incredibly fit the next. "To expect someone to look like her pre-baby self immediately is odd," she said. "You just grew a human and then birthed that human—there's a lot that needs to go back to where it was. All your organs move around, for chrissakes!"

Deschanel also opened up about how having her daughter made her feel like an adult for the first time, and stepping back from work to focus on her family. "I think it's good for your whole self—your creative self, your professional self, and just your soul—to take a little time for yourself and your family," she said. "You can spend your whole life going after things, but I think you risk missing out on some really powerful self-reflection." You got that right (even though it's super exciting to see Deschanel back at it again.)
