Nina Dobrev leaving The Vampire Diaries came as a huge blow to TVD fans because it was so hard to imagine the show going on without Elena Gilbert. She was literally the main character that most love triangles, fierce battles, and drama revolved around. How could Mystic Falls be anywhere near as interesting without her?

In the end, the remaining cast members like Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, and Kat Graham proved they could hold the show down on their own and TVD is still as strong as ever.

Still, with an Elena-shaped hole in Mystic Falls, fans can't help wondering if the end is near for the show. Julie Plec, the executive producer behind  TVD, has revealed that she has started to think about TVD's end date and basically confirmed she has one in mind — but there's a major catch.

"I finally realized that my destiny on this show, creatively, is tied in to Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley," Plec revealed to E! Online . "And I mean that in a really good way. As long as those boys who I now consider my friends want to keep telling the story, then I won't walk away from telling the story."

Basically, the future of  TVD rests in the Salvatore brothers' cold, vampire hands. It's one thing to lose one major main character and keep going, but it would be nearly impossible to keep going without the Salvatores. After all, the show's called The Vampire Diaries and they are the vampires...

Plec went on to say that if Ian or Paul pulls a Nina and decides they're ready to move on to new projects, she'll call time on the show and do her best to end it in a way the fans would appreciate.

"I will put my pencil down and say that I'm done too, and then we will work together to end it in the best way possible," she said.

Even though you don't even want to think about  TVD coming to an end, Plec's reasoning makes sense. Still, Ian and Paul are never, ever allowed to leave the show! They've got such a good thing going this season, so why not keep the good times rolling?! You got that, boys?
