Pretty Little Liars as you know it is ending after this season and, last week, it was announced that Teen Wolf is ending after its upcoming season 6, too. FIX "IS ENDING" REP Now, it looks like none of your favorite shows are safe from the cancellation bug, because another show is about to bite the dust: The Vampire Diaries.

It has long been rumored that TVD was nearing its end after its lead star, Nina Dobrev, left the show after season six and its other stars, Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham, hinted season eight would be their last. But the cast and producers made the official announcement Saturday during their annual appearance at Comic-Con san Diego.

"We all have discussed it and we've made the decision that this is it," TVD's producer, Julie Plec, told fans Saturday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "This is going to be the final season of The Vampire Diaries. It's bittersweet and emotional and we're all going to be crying in a minute. It's been a beautiful run... Get ready, because it's going to be an epic ride."

No, I'm not crying. YOU'RE crying! *Sniff*

To add insult to injury, the final season will also be shortened with only 16 episodes.

There is one bright side to this travesty though: Julie Plec is pretty confident Nina Dobrev will return as Elena before the series ends.

In an interview with TV Line, Julie revealed that Nina made an "emotional promise" to return and she hopes they can bring that to fruition.

Ian didn't seem too convinced Nina's "emotional promise" would come through. "I think that's about [a] 18.75% [chance]," he joked.

As much as this news pains you, it feels right that the show will end while most of the original core cast is still around to say goodbye. Not to mention, Damon will be around to end up with Elena when Nina comes back to life in the the final episode. WILD speculation right there, but a TVD fan can hope!

Here's a tear-inducing video montage TVD put together in tribute to the show's 8-year run.
