BREAKING: Detroit Pistons Reportedly Release 10-Year NBA Player

UPDATE: Joe Harris has been officially waived. 

Joe Harris has played in 16 games this season and is averaging 2.4 points per contest. 

On Thursday afternoon, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that the Detroit Pistons will waive Harris.  

Via Charania: "The Detroit Pistons are waiving Joe Harris, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium."

Harris is having a down season but has been an outstanding role player for most of his career.   

During the 2021 season, he averaged 14.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest while shooting 50.5% from the field and 47.5% from the three-point range in 69 games (for the Brooklyn Nets). 

In addition to the Pistons and Nets, he has also spent time with the Cleveland Cavaliers. 

Over ten seasons in the league, Harris has career averages of 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest while shooting 47.9% from the field and 43.6% from the three-point range in 504 games.  

He has also appeared in 29 NBA playoff games.  

With his extensive experience and elite shooting, Harris will be an excellent candidate for a contender to sign.

As for the Pistons, they have had a rough season and are the 15th seed (last place) in the Eastern Conference with a 7-43 record in 50 games.  

They are 3-7 over their last ten games but are coming off a 133-120 victory over the Sacramento Kings in California. 

Following the Kings, the Pistons will now face off against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday evening in Oregon. 

On the road, they are 3-20 in 23 games.
