Germany's Christoph Kramer can't remember the World Cup final

German midfielder Christoph Kramer doesn't remember most of Sunday's World Cup final due to a blow to the head sustained early in the match against Argentina. 

Kramer suffered a head injury during the 14th minute of yesterday's World Cup final against Argentina. He attempted to continue playing, but fell to the ground in the 32nd minute and proceeded gingerly to the sideline with assistance.

Due to the injury, the 23-year-old midfielder cannot recall a number of details of the match:  

"I can’t really remember much of the game," he told the German newspaper Die Welt (as translated by The Independent). "I don’t know anything at all about the first half. I thought later that I left the game immediately after the tackle. I have no idea how I got to the changing rooms. I don’t know anything else. In my head, the game starts from the second half."

Kramer was replaced by André Schürrle, who eventually assisted on Germany's match-winning goal in extra time. Kramer was not originally slated to start the match, but a pre-match injury to Sami Khedira allowed Kramer to make Germany's starting XI. 

Head injuries were a major issue during this World Cup. Uruguay's Alvaro Pereira appeared to knocked out by a blow to the head in his team's match against England, but he did not come out of the game, leading FIFPro to call for an investigation into FIFA concussion protocols.

Argentina's Javier Mascherano also suffered a head injury in the semifinal against the Netherlands, but was cleared to play in the final.
