Jozy Altidore sustains hamstring injury, Copa America status in doubt

United States striker Jozy Altidore has had a tremendously bad run of luck with injuries. That run continued on Saturday night when the USMNT's joint third all-time leading scorer limped off the field in the first half of Toronto FC's MLS match against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

TSN's sideline reporter, Kristian Jack, confirmed that Altidore told the coaching staff that it was his hamstring that was bothering him as he left the field.

The 26-year-old missed the beginning of the MLS season and was relegated to a reserve role in the USMNT's last World Cup qualifiers in March with a similar hamstring injury. It's been an on-going struggle for the striker as he's picked up several different injuries of the same nature at pivotal points during his national team career.

He went down with a hamstring tear in the first match of the 2014 World Cup and before that he missed the final two matches of the 2011 Gold Cup because of a similar incident.

It's just speculation at this point until we know the severity of the injury, but with the Copa America just three weeks away and the USMNT's training camp beginning on Monday, Altidore's chances of playing could have just severely diminished.

If he's unable to get fit for the tournament, forwards like Gyasi Zardes, Jordan Morris, and Bobby Wood will have big chances to prove themselves against some of the best teams in the world in this summer's special Copa America tournament.

What are your thoughts on Altidore possibly missing the Copa America? Who should pick up his minutes?
