Sounders, MLS reportedly demanding $6.5 million for DeAndre Yedlin

The Seattle Sounders and MLS are demanding about $6.5 million for DeAndre Yedlin, according to Mercato. The outlet said that original bids came in at about half that number, but that there are multiple teams trying to sign him and pushing that price higher.

If Yedlin is sold for $6.5 million, it would be the second largest transfer from MLS ever, only behind the $10 million Villarreal paid for Jozy Altidore. It's also possible that the bidding goes past the $6.5 million mark.

While the Sounders and MLS are clearly willing to sell Yedlin, they do not have to. Yedlin is still under contract and can be signed to a new one -- a richer one, no doubt -- so if teams are not willing to meet their price or they believe he can be sold for significantly more in a year or so, they may hold onto the 21-year-old.

Olympique Lyon, Roma and Genoa have all submitted bids on Yedlin, but they haven't come close to $6.5 million. The bids have reportedly been about half that, but it is still only mid-July. There is a month and half left and the bids are almost certainly to go up, although how high remains to be seen.

Teams will also have to figure out what they want to do with Yedlin once they sign him, be it keeping him or loaning him out, and a loan could be back to the Sounders. That would further complicate things, and possibly play a role in the bidding.
