Timothy Chandler battling injury ahead of USMNT World Cup opener

DaMarcus Beasley looks even more likely to start at left back with Timothy Chandler hurt.

Timothy Chandler's fitness is in question ahead of the United States' World Cup opener against Ghana. The right back injured his leg in training on Tuesday and has been limited in training since.

U.S. Soccer told ESPN that Chandler trained by himself on Thursday and the plan was for him to rejoin training today. The team has already had training and is on their way to Natal, but there is no updated word yet on Chandler's status.

Chandler has been in competition with DaMarcus Beasley to start at left back for the U.S. It looked like Beasley ahd the leg up already, having played well in the Americans' first and third warm-up friendlies while Chandler struggled in the Americans' second match, and the injury should wrap up the starting spot for the veteran. But Jurgen Klinsmann would surely want Chandler available off of the bench and to have the option of starting him in future matches so the U.S. will be keeping a close on on the fullback's status.
