Now that the NBA season is over, it is a good time to reflect on how two of UVA’s best Hoos did in the NBA this season. Joe Harris and Malcolm Brogdon had career years and are becoming household names. Harris defeated Steph Curry in the three point shooting contest in February, and Brogdon started for the Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

During the regular season, Harris led the NBA in three point shooting at 47.4%. Not to be outdone, Brogdon led the league in free throw shooting at 92.8%. Even more impressive is the duo’s accuracy from all levels of shooting.

Brogdon: 50.5% FG, 42.6% 3FG, 92.8% FT

Harris: 50.0% FG, 47.4% 3FG, 82.7% FT

They were the only two players in the NBA that finished the regular season shooting at least 50% FG and 42% 3FG with at least 125 3FG attempts. Harris is the only player in NBA history to shoot at least 50% FG and 47% 3FG in a season with at least 350 3 point attempts.

Once you include FT shooting, it becomes even more exclusive. The only players in NBA history to shoot at least 50/42/92 in a season with at least 50 3 point attempts are Steve Nash, Steve Kerr, and Brogdon. Harris is the only person in NBA history to shoot 50/47/82 with at least 250 3 point attempts.

If those numbers seem like arbitrary cutoffs, well there is a thing called the 50/40/90 club. Brogdon is only the 8th NBA player to join the club. Six of the other seven are current or future Hall of Famers.

Joe Harris is signed with the Nets through next season, while Brogdon is a restricted free agent and is due for a big payday this offseason. Expect many great things from these two and other Hoos in the NBA for years to come.

De’Andre Hunter, Ty Jerome, and Kyle Guy will look to be the next crop of Virginia’s NBA stars as the NBA Draft takes place next Thursday, June 20. Stay with Streaking the Lawn for all your updates!
