Joe Harris leads NBA with best 3-point shooting percentage

For the second time in three years, former Virginia basketball star Joe Harris finished the regular season leading the NBA in three-point percentage. Harris shot a blistering 47.5% from beyond the arc for the season, averaging 14.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game for the Brooklyn Nets. He is just the fifth player to take the top spot in 3P% more than once in their NBA career.

The other season Harris took the top spot was 2018-19 when he finished with a 47.4% mark. This year, Harris edged out Marcus Morris of the Los Angeles Clippers (47.3%) and Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis (47.1%), but Harris took significantly more attempts.

Harris also finished second in effective field goal percentage at 65.4%. Utah’s Rudy Gobert is top of the list at 67.5% with all of his attempts coming from two. Harris shot 55% from two and 51% from the field for the season.

Brooklyn is 48-24 on the season, and the Nets have clinched a playoff spot as they sit at No. 2 in the Eastern Conference. The Nets are absolutely loaded with superstars as players like Kevin Durant, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Blake Griffin all flocked to Brooklyn over the past couple off-seasons (undoubtedly to play with Joe Harris).

The 2021 postseason begins tonight with play-in games. In the Eastern Conference, the Charlotte Hornets will face Malcolm Brogdon and the Indiana Pacers in game one (6:30pm, TNT), while Anthony Gill and the Wizards square off with the Boston Celtics (9pm, TNT). Wednesday night, San Antonio will play Memphis, while Golden State takes on the Los Angeles Lakers.
