Pat McGrath Becomes First Makeup Artist to Receive Damehood

Pat McGrath is finally getting the royal treatment she deserves.

The legendary makeup artist is now the first to receive a damehood by Queen Elizabeth II, People reports. Pat is being recognized for her work as British Vogue’s Beauty Editor-at-Large, as well as running her own makeup empire, and for the countless projects she's worked on over the years. Pat has carved a unique, impactful spot for herself in the makeup industry and now, even the Queen herself is taking interest.

"I am beyond humbled that I have been awarded a Damehood in the Queen’s New Year 2021 Honours List as a D.B.E - Dame of the British Empire for Services to the Fashion and Beauty Industry and Diversity," Pat said in regard to the news.

She continued, "I am truly delighted and humbled to be given this wonderful honour. My mother’s obsession with beauty and fashion ignited my passion for this amazing industry and I feel blessed to have the privilege of working with some of the most extraordinary people throughout my career."

"The most deserving!!! love you mother <3333," wrote Paloma Elsesser on Pat's Instagram announcement of the news. Others including Lizzo, Naomi Campbell, and Lily Collins also shared their love and excitement in the comments.

Pat has had a long and prosperous career since the 1990s, working with nearly every iconic designer under the sun while also launching Pat McGrath Labs in 2015. In 2019, she was named to Time's 100 Most Influential People list. And now, damehood for the beautiful dame!
