Liverpool defender joins brother Yaya
Didier Drogba also in final 23 for Brazil

Kolo Touré made Ivory Coast’s World Cup squad despite being diagnosed with malaria last week, joining his brother Yaya and the veteran striker Didier Drogba in the African team’s final 23 for Brazil.

Touré also contracted malaria as an Arsenal player in 2008 when he was sent to hospital in Vienna for treatment.

Ivory Coast said Touré, 33, picked up malaria after visiting the Ivorian city of Abidjan before joining the squad in Dallas. The Liverpool defender did not play in the 2-1 defeat by Bosnia in a friendly on Friday.

The Touré brothers, Drogba, Roma’s forward Gervinho and Lille’s Salomon Kalou were all on the squad named at the Ivory Coast’s training camp in the United States on Sunday.

The Everton striker Lacina Traoré was one of five players cut by the coach Sabri Lamouchi. The CSKA Moscow forward Seydou Doumbia and France-based defenders Brice Dja Djédjé and Benjamin Angoua also missed out.
