FC Cincinnati close to signing Geoff Cameron - Deal to be completed this week
Former US international Geoff Cameron is headed to FC Cincinnati. According to a report by the Cincinnati Enquirer, only the medical check is missing. The deal is expected to be completed this week.
Cameron is currently still under contract with English second division club Queens Park Rangers. As the club announced last week, the long-time captain will not extend his expiring contract. Cameron would therefore be released on a free transfer. Tom Bogert of MLSSoccer.com confirmed last week that Cameron is no longer on the MLS Allocation List, meaning he can sign with any club without that team having to trade up to the number one Allocation Slot.
The 35-year-old defensive midfielder was drafted by the Houston Dynamo in the third round (42nd overall) in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. After 116 MLS games, Cameron moved to Stoke City in August 2012 for €2.15 million. In England, the veteran played 168 games in the Premier League and 89 games in the Championship.
