HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Who doesn’t love dogs? With a nickname called “Man’s best friend”, it’s no secret dogs are the top choice of pets across the United States.

As published by the American Pet Products Association and reported by Forbes Advisor, 66% of households (86.9 million) have a dog. That is a ten percent increase from 56% in 1988.

The Pew Research Center also found that 51% of pet owners view them in the same light as any human in the family.

While a lot of people like dogs, some debate may arise with which breed of dog is their favorite.

As reported by usnews.com, Indiana’s most popular dog breed is a Chihuahua. 20 other states also have the Chihuahua as the top dog breed.

Kentucky’s most popular breed is also the Chihuahua.

The Golden Retriever is Illinois’ most popular dog breed.

As a whole, the top ten dog breeds in order include:
