Matsuyama Kenichi to star in special NHK Kohaku drama

As part of the celebration for the 90th anniversary of NHK this year, the broadcast company has announced a special drama titled "Kohaku ga Umareta Hi" to be aired on March 21 starring actor Matsuyama Kenichi (29) as the lead.

Other cast members include Honda Tsubasa (22), Hoshino Gen (33), and Takahashi Katsumi (53).

The drama focus on the story of how NHK's famous New Year's Eve program "Kohaku Uta Gassen" came about in 1945, when the country was under General Headquarters. It depicts sweat and tears of the staff and singers at that time struggling to bring music to the people who have suffered in the war.

Matsuyama will play Shindo Tatsuya, the director who planned and produced "Kohaku Ongaku Shiai", the forerunner of what we know as the Kohaku Uta Gassen today.
