Where does origami come from?

It's commonly thought that origami was invented by the Japanese about a thousand years ago, but its roots may be in China. It's also likely that the process of folding was applied to other materials before paper was invented, such as cloth or leather.

These days, the Japanese word for this art - 'origami' (where 'ori' means 'folding' and 'gami' means 'paper') - is used for all types of paper folding regardless of their country of origin.

You can practice your origami skills with our frog templates.
