Elisha Cuthbert details new series 'One Big Happy'

LOS ANGELES, March 18 (UPI) -- Actress Elisha Cuthbert returned to the small screen on Tuesday in her new sit-com for NBC, One Big Happy.

The show comes from Executive Producer Ellen DeGeneres and follows Cuthbert's character Lizzie, a lesbian who decides to have a baby with her straight best friend Luke (Nick Zano). The childhood friends then become a new form of modern family when Luke meets a British woman and decides to marry her.

"I got the script and I remember vividly laughing out loud at some jokes, which is always for me a really great sign that the comedy doesn't have to be willed to be funny -- it just is," Cuthbert told Time ahead of of the show's Tuesday premiere.

After revealing she was "over-the-moon excited" that DeGeneres and Liz Feldman thought she could play the part, the Canadian actress revealed she was "terrified of doing a sitcom."

"It's out of my wheelhouse, I'd never done one before," she explained.

Thus far, NBC has ordered six episodes of the comedy which also stars Kelly Brook and Chris Williams.

When there's a midseason show the heat is tapered down a little bit," said Cuthbert. "We're just gonna get a chance to go on and to see if people respond."
