2024 Hummer EV Pickup and SUV
Hummer is back and now lives under the GMC brand. Being Hummer, it’s back in a big way with a full-size 4-door off-road capable pickup truck and similar-sized SUV. Yet, instead of being an environmental pariah, both the Hummer EV Pickup and SUV are 100% emission-free electric vehicles. The overt capability and swagger that was associated with Hummers the first time out has only grown in their new electric form. This starts with up to 1000 horsepower and a 0-60 acceleration time of about 3.3 seconds using the Watts to Freedom temporary power boost. While the close relationship between a full-size pickup and SUV may not be clear for other brands, Hummer makes no secret that its EV Pickup and EV SUV are about as close to the same vehicle as the two body styles can be and share many of the same traits and features.
2024 Hummer EV Performance and Capability
The initial Edition 1 launch trims for both the Pickup and SUV had notable waiting lists and have all been spoken for. Thus bringing in the 2024 model year are the EV3X trims for both body styles, followed by EV2 and EV2X models. “3X” refers to three electric motors with one positioned in front and one in the rear. This enables torque vectoring in the rear, sending more power to the outside wheel in a curve for improved handling. EV2 and EV2X models will have one motor at each end and less, if still comparatively impressive, horsepower.
One difference between the two body styles is the EV SUV has a 9-inch shorter wheelbase than the EV Pickup (126.7” vs 135.6”), making it a bit more maneuverable in parking lots and rough trails. This also results in a 20-cell, 170.0kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery under the floor for the EV SUV vs. the 24-cell, 212-kWh battery under the Pickup.
EV3X models will include rear-wheel steering and include the CrabWalk feature that allows the vehicle to move diagonally around an obstacle. An adjustable air suspension includes Extract mode that raises the body six inches above the already lofty 10.1-inch ground clearance to help pull the vehicle out of deep mud. An available Extreme Off-Road package includes 35-in all-terrain tires on 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, a locking front differential, and an effectively similar locking function for the two rear motors. There is also extra underbody protection, heavier-duty suspension components, and low-mounted cameras to view under the truck. Primarily due to the tires, this package reduced the range to 329 miles for the EV Pickup and 298 for the EV SUV. DC-Fast-Charge time from 10-90% is an estimated 128 minutes.

2024 Hummer EV Interior and Features
The rectilinear lines of the exterior carry on inside with huge HVAC vents flanking a dash of straight lines and 90-degree angles. In front of the driver is a configurable 12.3-inch gauge cluster. In the center is an even larger 13.4-inch infotainment screen powered by a Google operating system. Below the screen are two banks of physical controls for climate and other systems. Seating capacity is the same for both body styles because though it may look otherwise, this is strictly a 2-row SUV.
The GM SuperCruise system is standard, which allows for hands-free driving on approximately 400,000 miles of highway in North America. Other notable features are the SkyPanels, four removable panels over the seating that can be removed and stowed in the “frunk” for open-air driving. UltraVision includes up to 18 camera views to see everything around and under your vehicle. The EV SUV has a power swing gate at the rear (hinged on the side) which makes operation with the exterior-mounted spare tire more convenient than a traditional liftgate. The Pickup is available with GMC’s versatile MultiPro tailgate.
